Ok so I've decided to go ahead and build my first computer and the specs are as follows:

So what do you guys think??? Any things you would change or recommend?


I will most likely be running vista ultimate 64bit. I am planning on upgrading later to an after-market CPU cooler in order to OC and also planning on upgrading to a better GPU later but am on a tight budget right now and don't really do too much gaming as of yet but definitely plan on doing more so really dont have much need for a top notch GPU ATM...

Unless you're on a really tight budget, I wouldn't really recommend you go with a dual when quads are so cheap ATM. I'd recommend the Phenom II 920, it's under $200 and it will be worth it in the long run.
Pair it with a 790GX mobo.

Keep the RAM you already chose, the Phenom has a 1066 memory controller.

Switch the 9500GT for the HD 4670, it's a lot faster for the same price.

You could save some money by going with Home Premium, I really don't see the point in Ultimate, it's not as if you're going to use the extra crap it comes with.

Tight budget? What are you using this pc for?

I say throw out the 750gb hd and switch to a 500 for $55 unless you really need the space. The intel xenon's are great, but I think you'll be fine with a cheaper core 2 duo like e7300 or a core 2 quad for the same price. The Mobo is great, but you can buy the ep45 ud 3r for like $15 less. I say try to find an even cheaper case to save you some more cash. If you "really" don't need a gpu for now, you can go integrated and save that $45. If not, I say invest in a better one now because you'll be spending more later on.

Well it looks like a good first try but I do have a few recommendations and comments.

The case you put does have an included power supply which is actually well, terrible.

Um. why are you going with a Xeon? Why not the E8400 for a bit cheaper than the Exon, or even the E8500?

If you don't plan on using the included power supply, I would go for a case without one included, but it's your decision.

And as for DVD and GPU, they are good but if you play games, you WILL NEED to upgrade to 9600/9800GT card later. But for now, the 9500 will serve as a good place holder.

I have a couple of questions:

How well does the Phenom II overclock?

As for the GPU the only thing is that it has a Mail in rebate so its actually only $45, also that MoBo has onboard video so would it be good to just skip the GPU until I plan on getting a good one that I will stick with for the long haul?

The MoBo i chose was the ep45 ud3r I actually typed it in wrong when getting the link. The case I selected was only $50 after the rebate so I'm really not spending that much and I like the Green LED's

I understand that the case comes with a crappy PSU but I have already chose another PSU to replace it (OCZ 700W for 49.99 after rebate) and as for the RAM I was looking for 1066Mhz not 800mhz. But that HDD does have alot better reviews tho although it is 10 bucks more for 110Gbs less but I guess I really don't need that much memory ATM anyways...

About the PSU do you think the one I selected is fine? The only reason I really chose it was because for 1 it was OCZ which is pretty good and it was 700W for 49.99 after rebate...I figured it was going to be sufficient power for any upgrades and was pretty cheap.. But if its not going to be good then I would rather spend a little more to get something better...About the RAM is there going to be a big difference from 800Mhz and 1066Mhz? I also am going to go with the HDD you suggested since it does have much better reviews...

The power supply is fine but I personally think it's too much power for your needs. The Antec I listed or these others will all be better than the OCZ because they are name brand, better reviews, and are not more power than you need. In fact, I would be comfortable running a quad system with crossfire on one of these 650 Watt PSU's.

The difference between 800 MHz and 1066 MHz will be minimal.
