monitor shuts off

today in the morning i went to start my rig and as i was waiting for the windows vista loading screen to pass the screen shutoff and said no signal.so i made sure everything was connected right and it was.so i opened the case and took out the card and everything looked fine except a little dust clot inside the pci 16x slot but i blew that out.i installed the card again and it did the same thing.so i installed it into the pci 16 slot number 2 and it works.i had this same problem months ago but it was reverse.what could it be

I had that problem a while back, and it was simply fixed by unpluging the power cable from the monitor for 5 minutes. Apparently the card got confused with what monitor I had.

Have you recently updated your graphics drivers?
