Ok can someone help me with this.. my external drive is internally usb but has a serial ata logo. WTF

When did Western Digital start integrating there external drives?

Specs: Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB WD3200BMV

That card isn't just attached to the hard drive throught the SATA port? What does the other side look like?

i've taken some screws off the bottom board and peeked inside and all there is, is a cloth and a round metal piece so i dont think there is an adapter. Different models of the passport actually have the sata usb adapter e.g wd3200tn. why the fack would they internalize one particular model of the passport? i spent $100 on the wrong wd my passport.. that only could happen to me

It is a Serial ATA hard drive with a 'built in' USB interface. The USB interface is part of the normal hard drive circuitry.

The downside to this means that when the interface fails you cannot use the hard drive again.

Whereas before you could disconnect the 'non working' USB interface and use the hard drive again in a laptop, 2.5 inch, or PC, 2.5/3.5 inch.

It's a marketing ploy I guess.
