Volume MAXED, cant here a thing!

i recently wiped my system and installed windows xp, because my laptop couldnt handle vista. when i installed xp my headphones didnt work, they work when i put in headphones with usb, but not the normal green plug, cant use usb ones cause they broke so im trying to figure out why its not working!

do you have any sound at all?

im guessing a fresh install you need to install sound drivers.

goto your laptop manafacturers website and look for drivers for the laptop.

Your volume isn't muted by chance is it? Go to the sound properties icon in the system tray and make sure nothing is muted.

Make sure "Wave" under the volume toolbar isn't at 0, mine always set's that to be 0 when the PC starts up and i cant hear a thing

i had the same problem with a ACER laptop last week.
i downloaded drivers, however they did not help.
i eventualy chucked in the rescue disc 1 and let it install the original driver.
hey presto it worked.
