Power Supply Question

A power supply only supplies as much power as the computer needs. Nothing more, nothing less. You want to look for a good 80+ efficiency.

Overkill for an single card, even if it is a dual GPU, the 55nm GT200s are actually pretty frugal.

The GTX295's TDP is 75W (PCI-E) + 75W (6 pin) + 150W (8 pin) = 300W, it won't actually draw anyway near that much, I'd say around 220W-230W.

Buying a higher wattage PSU than is required doesn't only mean you're spending more money than you need to. A PSU's efficiency is at it's lowest when the system is drawing much less that it's rated output, which means it's going to be using more power and producing more heat that a, for example, 600W PSU.

Something 600W-650W is will do fine. Look into the Corsair HX620 or it's Seasonic equivalent.

How about this one:

I want to have some room if I decide to SLI GTX 295 later on.

Thanks guys

that's a very good psu, but it's a bit pricey, if $$ isn't a concern get it, if you want to spend a little bit less (maybe free up some $$ for other upgrades...?), you can get either one of these two, which I've heard good things about...

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W - $105 after $20 MIR

PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W - $95 after $40 MIR

well if u gonna sli than do 1000, i think its stupid to sli dual gpu cards cause their will be a lot of heat and drivers may not be so good as dual gpu cards havnt had better drivers than single cards just yet. if you doing single card, than get the corsair 750tx, amazing single 12v rail on that thing.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I forgot to say I want it modular to cut down on the cable mess.

It's all going into this case:

lol dude for $229 you should get an Antec 1200 and not worry if its a modular or not modular because its gots wire management behind the motherboard. It will also provide a lot more cooling because of all the fans and because its a full tower. The 295 may not fit in the case u listed, not positive but if their is 10.5 inches in free space from the HDD cage, your barley making it. Anyways for that kind of money i rather get the Antec 1200 case, its about the same price, its better, material is nice to.

That Silverstone FT01B-W is a really nice case. It's well built and offers excellent cooling with 2x 180mm and 1x 120mm fan. Should be able to fit a GTX 295 in there.

I like that Zalman PSU too. It has some nice power saving features and should be reliable.
