i need to upgrade the ram on my laptop. i currently have 512x2 sticks of ram in it from the factory. im running vista home premium. i want to know if i can run 4 gigs of ram in it.

thanks in advance for the help

If you're running a 32 bit OS, it's useless. Your computer won't use more than 2, MAYBE 2.5GB.

thats exactly what i needed to know. i will be upgrading to 64bit if needed, also i think i read somewhere that i have to get a bios update for it to use 4 gigs. any thoughts on that?

Trust me, it's more trouble than it's worth. Throw 2GB in there and you will see a big difference. You won't even notice a large increase in speed unless you're using a lot of memory intensive applications.

cool i guess i will save myself 25 bucks and just go with the 2gigs then. any ideas on a good brand?

Why's that? You can modify your boot.ini file to let programs use more than two GB, AFAIK.
