blu-ray question

I've heard rumors (not sure how true) that Blue-Ray support in XP is iffy. I know it works fine in vista, but both will need a decoder for it to play. Other than that, I think you are all set.

rumors from where? I'm curious about this. Would you happen to have a source. I mean i guess it makes logical since. Just wondering?

okay im building a pc
(some of the parts are in my sig)
and i was wondering if i need anything special to watch blu-ray?
i want to put a blu-ray rom in
it has a 2.66 quad core
with 4 gigs of ram
a 8800 gt 640 mhz core clock w/ 512 mb of ram
on a 22" LCD monitor with a 20000:1 contrast ration and a 2ms response time
a 7.1 sound card with 5.1 speakers
would i be able to see all of the wonders of blu-ray

People at both of my jobs. That, and my laptop is a dualboot. The XP partition sees my drive as a dvd-burner, where vista see's it as a full-on blue-ray burner (which it is)

HDMI = DVI, they are both HDCP, but HDMI also has digital audio, up to 5.1 channel IIRC

EDIT: sorry HDCP is content protection, but both are are capable of HD content.
just fyi vga is also capable of displaying more than hd resoloutions

What is the HDMI in a GPU for?
What is the HDMI in a monitor for?

Do I need them as well as the blu ray burner to play blu ray or hd?

so if i was to use this as my monitor
TV
then i would get all of the ohhhh and ahhhh of Blu-ray
right?

yes you should get the oooooooooohs ahhhhh and oh shiiiiii*t. hahah

thats a damn good price for a tv. man
