Core Duo :S

Right Im going to sound like a complete noob here but....

I have bought a new macbook pro with an intel 2ghz core duo processor
Does this mean there is 2ghz on each processor OR is it 1ghz on each processor?

If it is the latter does that make a 2.6ghz Pentium (D for example) processor faster/better?

Any explenation in simple language would be nice

2 cores both running at 2GHz.

The Core 2 Duo architecture is a lot more efficient and can do much more per clock cycle which can often mean a slower clocked C2D can be faster than a faster clocked D.

Yours is probably around the same speed as the 2.6GHz D.

The Core 2 Duo has a lower speed, but has two cores. If it's 2ghz than it means both cores run at 2ghz. So it's still just 2ghz.

It will be around the same speed as the Pentium D, but more power efficient and cooler.
