how can you tell if a motherboard supports dual cpu? is there one that supports dual i7 940's? I finally got my refund check in so I have 3k to put towards a workstation... I want to get the Radeon 4870 X2 and use i7 940's... but I have no idea where to go from there... can you get a board that supports dual, get a single cpu, then get a second later on and just put it in for the extra power? thanks again for all your help...

by the way... i want to be able to run dual screens as well...

i dont think there are any dual socket i7 boards only because they're desktop CPU's. dual CPU boards are mainly for servers. if anyone is planning on making a dual CPU i7 it wont be for a while. if your really willing to spend all 3k i would suggest this.

now that is got to be thee most badass system of all time ;)

and this come to about $1,998.94 so that leaves you with about a grand for monitors and a sweet case

i would definitely recommend these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001268

and this is a very nice clean case

after those monitors and that case it comes to about $2,728.91. so that will leave you ~150$ for accessories like mouse and keyboard.

good luck :)

Nope, one 4870 has two DVI connectors, so you can run dual monitors. But, if you put in a second 4870 to run in crossfire, you can only run 1 monitor I think.

that setup is sick... im actually about to order it now... how many slots does the i7 have for ram though? can i get 4x2gb?

what about the Skulltrail mobo?
is that server only?
i was under the impression that it was for the ultra serious hardcore gamers?
or just the wack jobs that have an over powered pc for no reason
