All of a sudden I've been getting lots of advertisements for random crap like cellphone ringtones and BBW dating and sportsbook.com from Internet Explorer which I never use. I tried spybot search and destroy and ran nod32 but while they caught problems neither of them have stopped my problem I get about 28 popups every hour or so and it's really annoying. What should I do?

blow up your computer (figuratively)...i suggest formatting and reinstall windows and avoid hours of trying to kill all that adware crap.

Once ur infected, its really really hard to get rid of all the ____ware

Talk about a radical solution.

if you're using XP, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to Messenger and right click it and select Properties. Under the General tab, select Disable in the drop down menu after Startup type. Click the Stop button under the Service status. Click Apply > OK and you're good to go.

It is not related to Windows Messenger and will not disable that program. Some advertisers use this service to send information via the Internet, and these messages could be used maliciously to distribute a virus.

Another thing you can do is clean out your cookies and internet cache.

well that disable and stopped were already selected and i deleted all my temp and cache and cookies from firefox and IE and so far it has seemed to stop but once I deleted everything I got a bunch of nod32 popups from the website getsgd2.com/setup and the threat is win32/adware.spywareguard application....also could this virus or adware somehow affect my microphone settings I went into ventrilo after getting all this and ppl say they can barely hear me even tho my mic volume is all the way up and settings are the same? is it possible?

I really don't know if that would affect the mic settings. It's entirely possible. I would check the settings in Ventrilo and in Windowz.

after i did everything i restarted and still keep getting nod32 popups and popups in firefox now, I honestly don't want to reinstall don't know if I can find my 32 bit XP cd but I have fixed many virus/adware/spyware problems before that have been worse this one is just annoying

See if Malwarebytes can get rid of that bug. There have a version that is free to use.

I've downloaded that and another spyware/adware program and neither of them are able to "run" because when I click run I get an error, I think its going to have to be a re-install

Try running them in safe mode.

will do once I finish running the nod32 scan i restarted a while ago thanks for your help tonight, will look forward to trying out tomorrow
