okay gents this is simple
when connecting a DVD burner and HDD to the mobo using SATA cables
does the HDD need to be in the first SATA connection?
or can it be in the 2nd or the others?
does it even matter?
thanks for any help that can be given

I am not 100% sure but I think it doesn't matter first, second …………..anyone?

i would put the hdd on the first 1 and the cd drive on the second 1, but it doesnt really matter, coz u can change the boot options in the bios

yeah i just got a new HD and DVD burner for christmas. So ya can someone help me with the setup

the only time it makes a difference is when it's hard drives. the lowest number should be the boot hard drive. If mixing HDDs and Opticals it doesn't matter.

okay
so if i wanted to add another HDD to make it RAID
and another one for Ubuntu
i should leave the next 2 spaces open
correct
then have anything else 'plug in' order behind those open spaces correct?
like my DVD Burner
and maybe a Blu-Ray ROM would be in SATA port 4 & 5 respectively
(out of 6)
and yes my mobo can have a RAID format

bump
i think i understand what i was told
but i want to be sure

Once the boot drive is in, the other spaces don't matter and can be filled in in any order. So you wouldn't need to leave any open spaces for future upgrades like raid. Those can just be plugged into any open port where ever it happens to be.
