I have my main computer using wireless and i keep losing connection to my router. after about an hour or so vista will tell me it has lost connection to my gateway and i have to restart my router to get the connection back

Any idea why this is happening?

Specs:
Belkin 54g 4 Port Wireless Router Using WEP key

Linksys Wmp110 Pci wireless adapter

Microsoft Vista

It could be a number of things. Do you have the latest drivers for the wireless adapter? How far away is it from the router?

the computer is maybe 5 feet away from the router and yeah i have the lastest firmware but also i do use torrenting. do you think my isp can disconnect me like that?

idk what else it could be

Well, I dont think your ISP would be dropping your connection like that. I guess the only way to test that is to plug in directly to the router with an ethernet cable and see if the connection still drops.

so basically it cant be my isp. im thinking its my router thats screwing everything up, the lastest firmware for it is from 2006.

i've been looking on newegg for a new router and im not sure which one is the right router to get. do you think you could reccomend something to me?

Well, if you want to look into a new router, there are tons of different options. Depends on your budget. Basically the difference between Wireless G and Wireless N routers is that N, has more range and faster signal. But since your computer is in the same room with your router, it really doesn't matter. Here are a few you can check out:

I'd only go with D-link or Linksys routers.

Either way, reset all of your routers settings to default and re-do it. Then, change the wireless channel to something besides the default channel.

I've had this problem ever since we went to wireless (2+ years and counting...)
It's pissing me off, it usually happens when a lot of comps are using the net or we're playing LAN games.

The router is like 10m away. I've tried 2-3 different routers and 1-3 different wireless network adapters...
any help?

yea, i find changing the wireless channel can help. some of my computers can be real fussy (or its just interfering with my phone / other networks).
also wep .... who uses that any more :p
if you do get a new router, then wireless N isnt that expensive really, and if you like to transfer stuff between the network then it might be worth it.
