I put a new NIC card in one of my PCs. When I hooked it up to my network I can no longer get to the internet, I noticed there is a yellow "!" on my adapter in device manager. I tried re-installing the drivers but same results.

I tried resetting my router, modem but that still didnt help. Any ideas what is causing this? I am getting a message of can't connect to my DCHP server".

thx

Can you find a different version of the drivers. What brand is it? I've had problems with netgear NICs where I'd try to install what supposedly was driver X but get driver Y installed. I'd make sure the card is correctly seated. What kind of connector does it have? Is it wireless?

Remove any installed drivers. Shut down your computer and remove the NIC. Reboot and install the drivers. Shut it down again and then install the NIC. Reboot.

In the first place dump any drivers you installed that came with the card. You don't need them. XP and Vista have the drivers for 99% of cards out there, built in.
Next go to the network set up and find where it says let Vista or XP run the card. Set everything to auto, apply and ok. Reboot.

It all depends on your router,go on one of the other computers and go to 'run' in the start menu and type in CMD,and then type in 'ipconfig' and then copy the results and paste them here.
