Blinking _

Well I had vista, I wastrying to speeed my pc so i removed some programs, dick defrag, cleanup, the msconfig and some things smoothed out for a while. then after a while i got the Long Boot with the blinking underscore

_ <-----Blinking...UGH!!!

So I decided let me reinstall Vista
That didnt do anything
Then changed my boot order to HD first CD 2nd
That didnt do anything
Then I formatted my HD and installed XP.
That didnt do anything

So now I have to wait 5 minutes until the blinking udnerscore (_) go away and boot my OS.

Any solutions people?

Download and run a drive testing utility form the manufacturer's site.

When reinstalling, did you first delete the partition and then reformat?

have you updated your bios? my gateway does that quite a bit, i updated my g33 bios and it doesnt do it anymore. Programs like RadarSync will help with that. It'll show you the drivers for your motherboard, and any other hardware in your computer that is not up-to-date. But yeah it does sound like a driver problem. or bios. here is a link to radarsync program.
