okay, so i recently payed 500 dollars to newegg to get all the parts so i could build my own computer. so i got the computer and put it together, but one problem the 550 watt power supply i bought when i clicked the switch to turn on it does nothing, the fan doesnt spin no lights light up nothing. so i unplug everything and try just plugging in a fan and seeing if the power supply even worked, once again nothing. so just recently i went to best buy with the power supply and asked them to tell me if my power works or not, so they plug just the main 24 pin in and turn on and sure enough the fan starts spinning then stops the starts spinning some more, but the main point is that it works, then he plugs in the 4 pin plug and trys the power again and it lights up, fan spins cosistantly and everything seems to work good. so i bring it back home and try again doing the same as him first only the 24pin and nothing then the 24pin and the 4 pin and of corse nothing so next i try to unplug the memory, sata, basically all the cables and try and still nothing, please can someone help me with this problem. i will put links to my computer i just bought below.

thanks for all your help

I would make sure everything is hooked up properly. Including case cables if you're trying to power from the power button in front of the case. If everything is connected properly and it still doesn't work, then your motherboard is FUBAR (DOA).

i just dont understand how the guy from best buy got it to turn on but then when i connect it to mr board it doesnt show any sign of working

The PSU only turns on when the 24/20 pin is connected to the motherboard. There's a little rig you can do with a paper clip to trick your PSU that it's connected to the motherboard so you can actually power it up. Since your PSU has been tested working, the only other object that could cause this malfunction is the motherboard, which we analize not working.

okay so that does make sense and i went back on some reviews for the mobo and yes there has been some DOA, but what does this mean now for my CPU and cpu fan with the glue stuff and all that, am i going to be able to still reuse everything?

Yeah, just take all of your RAM out. Take out the CPU and the fan. Make sure to be very careful with that CPU. Try to keep them in an anti-static bag. Or, the packaging they came in. RMA your motherboard. You should get one in a few days. Then you try again!

to me it sounds like your not putting in the light/power switch cables wrong, but reseating ur cpu, memory, and gpu could help. WHen you turn on the computer is there ANY beeping noise?

Strong fail in this thread guyz.

The PSU isn't going to turn on when you flick the switch on the back of it.
