My friend smashed my power supply

I have a really old [year 2000] computer that hit the shitter years ago. My friend took the power supply and smashed everything inside and it smells weird. What the hell is the smell?

That part was unclear. Anyway, the smell is probably residual energy within the power supply that is shorting with other components (these power supplies will hold current for several years even while unplugged ... that's why we don't open them).
