Amd Vs Intel

I think current AM2+ boards can take advantage of Phenom II's when they come out. Can anyone confirm?
according to toms hardware, yes you are right.
You can operate a Phenom processor
in almost every Socket AM2 motherboard on the market. Even low-cost motherboards will support the standard thermal envelope of 95 W;

I would go with the Phenom, you'll have an upgrade path for the future, whereas LGA775 is a dead end socket. AM3 CPUs will be compatible with AM2+ boards.

And you always have those extra two cores just in case.

Get the cheapest 775 socket you can. That way you can still upgrade down the road. It's a really simple decision. I'd take quality over quantity any day. But, that's just me.

Why do that? Intel love making new sockets and the i7 doesn't even use the socket 775. At least if you go with the AMD the socket AM3 will be backwards compatible with the AM2 boards. Not that you get all the bells and whistls of the AM3 if you do that though. That's the way to look at it from an upgrade point.
