Hardware problems???

It should. If the CPU overheats to the point where the computer needs to shutdown you can't really diagnose any other problems that may be there.

I tried everything again. I even put the old motherboard back in. The good news is when I put the old one back in it stopped turning itself off. the bad news is it is having the same problems. I forgot to add that the cd drive will not open either.

The old motherboard is an ABIT IL8 Intel G45P Bios version 13
Pentium D 930/3.0ghz 775 socket
1G/533mhz ddr2

The new board is an ASUS P5GC-mx/1333 XSeries

I got it running and stuff pops up on the screen for 3 seconds with the new motherboard now. But it still shuts itself off. I am about to take this thing out back and shoot it. Why is it shutting itself off???? The heatsink and fan onon tight.

Does anybody have any other ideas why it may be turning itself off after a few seconds? I am getting power now to the components so half of my problem is solved. If I can get the computer to stay running I am golden.
