CAN ISP's see all the sites i visit? or things i download?

Just keep this in mind ... ISPs offer the "public" the Internet. So they may be summoned to provide statistics of where a certain person went. IMO it's not much different than a school monitoring web usage of a certain student account, and if the student is caught looking at porn on a school computer, you'd imagine the principal can ask IT to pull up all the logs on a student account. If schools and corporations can maintain these logs, just imagine the logs for ISPs.

IC....well porn isn't illegal anyhow...and chances are...they aren't just going to look into my Log for shits and giggles....it'd be if they were noticing weird activity, or got a complaint right?

Ok, so lets put it this way....lets say i watch porn, and visit sites like ones that supply torrents, am i going to get fined for illegal activity. Is it something my parents would be notified about aka the ones who pay the internet bills.

If you are caught torrenting, and your parents pay the Interenet bill, they will be notified.Only because its illegal activity. But, if you are downloading legal things (Porn, Free software, updates and so on, they dont notify anyone

when you say torrenting.

Ok so let me put this into perspective, lets say i torrented a few videos. Now when i mean a few, say 4...is that something that would be addressed? Now i don't seed or anything, but i won't lie...i downloaded a couple videos, watched them....and then deleted them. Should i be worrying about the ISP contacting me / the bill payer?

If its a safety blanket you want, many millions of people torrent, and the liklihood of them picking you out of that many people, to set an example, is pretty small, but if you want complete safety, don't do it at all. Simple as that.

Everyone who torrents should be worried. ITS ILLEGAL, Unless of course the item you are downloading is free/shareware. Deleting the files from your computer is useless. Why? Because, as stated above, everything you connect too is logged by IP address.

Though, Alot of people downloads illegally, How are they going to catch us all? Its not possible. They think that if they catch a few here and there it will scare the rest of us.

Its not really a safety blanket i was looking for, but what you said gives me piece of mind. I used to be really bad with download illegal stuff, but i've stopped, can't say i'm perfect (yet) but i am working on it.

Thanks for your input, and you couldn't have said it any better :). I will just stop torrenting all together unless ofcourse its for legal content :)

How can they prosecute you if they cannot prove that it was you sitting at the computer downloading Illegal software.

Their are programs that protect you....

But honestly man, You have NOTHING to worry about unless you're downloading 24/7, Because then your ISP might notice it a bit more. Hell, I bet you could Download Vista, and put all illegal software on it, and not get caught.

IP My friend. If everyone denies it, they can investigate. If he is running MSN at the time, they can show that it was him on his email account while downloading illegal content.

Austinn is right, you can't deny it for long, cause every computer in the world has its own unique IP...and trust me, they'll prove its you...they have their ways.

But yeah, i don't need programs to hide it, and i don't worry about it, i will just make sure i do not download illegally and i'm safe :).
