Auto-close old threads?

Just curious, is there a reason this site doesn't just use a simple cron script or even a VB add-on to automatically close inactive threads after a certain amount of time. I feel like the mods spend a decent amount of time trying to keep these forums clean and efficient, so why not make their jobs a little easier by doing it for them, since thread digging is against the rules anyways. I don't think it makes sense to delete or archive them; they belong where they were created, just shouldn't be brought back to life after a while

I'm assuming this has already been asked, but I searched and couldn't really come up with much - let me know!

EDIT: I just looked at the related threads section below this one and saw celegorm posted the exact same thing :X Sorry, mods feel free to delete. But if anyone is still interested in this idea, I did have a script for VB that I used to do exactly this, virtually no resources needed
