Xtreme GAMINg pc, my budget is $2k

Hmmm....I dunno. I'm thinking maybe to go with a lowend i7 for now and then when the prices start dropping, I could upgrade it. But then when i think of it, that means I would have just wasted my money on the lowend i7 so it ends up probably being the same cost-wise.

How much could i clock the 920 to safely?
I have no idea. There hasn't been one OC'ed in this forums yet. From the quick look I took on google, you might be able to reach 3.8+GHz if you know what you're doing. I would say you can definitely get 3.6GHz. You might have to consider upgrading the PSU I listen earlier to something with more watts if you want to make sure you get the most out of your CPU.

Whoops, I have to get back up to date :p

Anyway, I like what Joga's got there. With that $500, you'll need a case, power supply, DVD burner, OS, and hard drive if I'm remembering everything. Here are my suggestions:

Case:
Lian-Li $70

PSU:
850W Antec $125 (Wow, that's a really good deal. 72A on +12V rail. Will futureproof if you add a second 4870X2)

DVD burner:
Samsung $25

Vista Home Premium: $80 (Wow, this got cheap)

Hard drive:
640GB WD with 32MB cache $85

That's about $400 right there, perfect.
