Hi, I'm trying to find parts for a new build, keeping it relatively cheap. I'm looking at processors from newegg and wondering: is there really a big difference between these two processors? The Core 2 Duo is $70 more than the Athlon...is it really worth it?

Intel

AMD

Also, What is the difference between the 5200 and 5000? It seems the 5000 is not as good as the 5200, yet more expensive.

Sorry for so many scattered questions, I'm very curious about this stuff

The Intel Core 2 Duo is an overall faster processor than the AMD X2. If your going for performance, it would be the one to get. The AMD is a good consideration in price/performance if you're on a budget.

The only real difference is that the 5200+ is a bit faster, all other specs are the same. I really don't know why it's $3 cheaper.

It looks good, but the reviews are saying it has heat issues and loose heat sinks. Anyone know anything about this?

Out of 238 reviews, I only saw a few complaining of loose heatsinks. Heat could be an issue in a case with poor airflow.
