Standard or Aftermarket CPU cooler?

I was wondering if I would need a CPU cooler on my Intel Core 2 Duo
I'm building my own computer for the first time and I do plan on OC'ing once I get more familiar with it.
Thanks for any help.

Edit look at bottom of thread!!

You have to have a heatsink regardless of whether you plan to OC or not. Since you do plan to OC make sure you get a good cooler. I recommend a Xigmatek or the TRU120.

You need at least a stock fan and heatsink at all times. If you plan to OC you should get a better cooler.

You should be fine with those choices. I;d go with he Xigmatek. It's way better than the Freezer Pro 7 for overclocking.

Ok now that I've gotten that out of the way, do I need a heatsink too?

Edit: I was looking at the Xigmatek and it says it has a heatsink so I guess I'm good on that.

Also I'm thinking I need to buy that Arctic Silver 5 compund.

The Xigmatek is a heatsink.

Yes, you do need thermal compound. I like MX-2 myself.

You get TIM with the heatsink. The one that comes with the Xigmatek isn't all that bad. You'll probably only see a few degrees in difference. Here are my temps with the HDT S1283. My computer has been on for about 4 days now. It gives great results. I bought it a while ago when it was $36.99. :(
