Looking to make a new email...

If you register your own domain name (something like yourname.com) employers will look it up and if it returns a blank page it doesn't look very profesionals. I'd say go with your ISP because hotmail.com doesn't scream profesional either

If you don't go through your ISP, do gmail or yahoo. Plenty of self-employeed people still use those as their email provider to give it a professional appeal if you do a firstnamelastname (or initials of either) kind of email address.

Where I work there was a lad applying for an internship and his email was something like massiveknockers@hotmail.com or something along those lines. Needless to say they didn't get it

Probably not, you have to be think to put that email on your resume!
