I was thinking about getting the XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog but the HIS 4830 recently came out. Which would be a better buy?

The HD 4830 would be the better deal of the two. It should outperform the 8800GT quite easily.

Overall, the HD 4830 is slightly faster, but if the 9800GT/8800GT is ~$20 cheaper, go with that.
