Hi, im gearing up for the launch of the X58, but in going to wait for the price to fall, but i was wondering if the tri channel ddr3 ram with work on a normal X38 board, the p5e3? should there be any compatability issues before i transfer it to its main home, the x58 board when i can afford to buy ti and the proceccor

Yes, as long as the board supports DDR3 memory, it will work.

The label of "dual channel and now "tri channel" memory is really nothing more than a marketing trick. It's just used to say that the memory kit is built with the same specs. Any kit of memory with matching specs will run in dual or tri memory setups.

A tri-channel kit contains three sticks, so in an X38 board, two of the sticks would run in dual channel and one would run in single channel.

the only reason you wound need a tri channel one on a X58 board is because the voltage is designed to work with the chip, a 1.65. the max the board can run supposidly
