ok so im building my friend a new computer
hes going to reuse his hard drive and disk drives

but sense his hard drive already has xp installed on it how is that going to make it different when i first turn on his new computer?

He will likely have some problems with old motherboard drivers etc, or he may need to format his HDD altogether. Sometimes things can go fine with no problems though.

Basically you should reformat if you are getting a different motherboard, because the chipset has changed, requires different drivers.

like they said above,
its better to just reformat, cause not only have drivers and stuff changed, its much much fast, and will save you a tone of time.
