im trying to fix a laptop for my cousin. its a compaq presario v4000. the problem im having is that it wont connect to a network. it doesnt matter whos network(doesnt work on his or mine). also, neither the wireless or regular ethernet cable work. ive trying using both and i get the same result. i have the wireless turned on, the computer recognizes it. when i search for networks in range, it says "windows cannot configure this wireless connection" if i try to repair the connection, it fails saying that it cannot be completed since it cant connect to a network. when i connect an ethernet cable, it says that windows cannot configure the connection. ive tried doing a system restore but that doesnt help. im at a loss as to whats wrong. any ideas? thanks.

Are the drivers loaded for the NICs? Try uninstalling and reinstalling the NIC drivers so that the IP stack clears out and gets rebuilt.

You could always reset the stack without reinstalling as well.

go to start - run and type netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Are the devices set to get IP through DCHP or did they somehow get set to looking for a static IP?
