A crazy friend told me that even newer CRT's still suffer from image burn if it's left on too long. Is he crazy?

It would have to be always displaying the same image. A cash point may suffer from image burn, but not a computer monitor.

As long as there is a screen saver there shouldnt be any burn on the screen. Altough it is a big waste of power epecially if the moniter is not in stand-by mode or sleep mode.. =/

Yeah, you can leave it on, as long as you have either a screen saver, or set it to sleep after like 20 or 30 minutes of no use. It won't hurt it to stay turned on, but it will hurt it if it displays the same image for a long period of time.

Usually when an image is burnt onto the screen. You can display a blank white background to remove it. It will raise your electricity cost tremendously, though.
