Is it worth it to run 3GB RAM in XP Pro?

I have 2GB of RAM in my WinXPPro SP3 machine and from the time the shutting down message comes up that says "Logging Off", it's like 8 seconds until the computer's off.

I tried Vista. I didn't like it. It just demands too many resources. I don't believe it's worth it to upgrade to Vista only for DirectX 10 and an Aero design.

I have Vista on my laptop and I don't even use the Aero. I have it set on the classic and it doesn't run too bad. One of my major complaints though is the fact that if a laptop's battery life is 4 hours with Windows XP, it turns into 2 hours with Windows Vista.

Be sure to image your hard drive right before you upgrade to vista. Incase you don't like it. But if anything with linux, do a dual boot.
