9800GT or 4850 ?

i would get the 4850 because it performs better than the 9800GT, i think the 4850's competitor is the 9800GTX+, and i think the 4850 pulls through.
Though the 9800GT is cheaper than the 4850 last time i checked.

If they are the same price, obviously the HD 4850. If you can find the 9800GT for cheaper, and you play below 1680x1050, then consider the 8800GT/9800GT.
so these problems i've found on the internet could just be isolated cases? you say that, generally, ati cards don't have major driver problems. i could simply install the latest ones, and play the games normally?
No problems here. As long as you properly uninstall your old drivers and properly install the new ones, you'll have no problems.

The stuff you've been reading could be people using leaked (ATi don't BETA test on consumers) BETA drivers.

9800 GT, no questions asked....

why?
the only reason why he should get the 9800GT instead of the 4850 is if he wants to save some money.
But if they are the same price, its got to be the 4850. Its proven in benchmarks that the 4850 is better than the 9800GT.

As for the GRID thing, it was a certain driver, and some of us had to go to a previous one, which didnt really matter. If theres a problem with the game, there will always be a fix.

Nvidia cards also has problems with certain games, i forgot which games though.

And is there any significant difference between different models/manufacturers, or just any 4850 will do?

Id go with the 4850. Im running a sapphire hd4870 right now and its way better than my room mates 9800gt

im pretty sure that the 4870 wasnt meant to compare with the 9800GT but the 260GTX.
