install Os Windows XP Sp2 to a corrupted HDD

HDD: seagate barracuda 40gb(corrupted)
CD-ROM drive: samsung cd-master 48E model sc-148
RAM 256mb


LED power ON, CD-ROM LED blinking
Monitor: is on but no display... connected correctly
CD/DVD already set as primary boot in the bios....

problem: I can't install..... what will i do???

Format your HDD/partition to NTFS (Quick) and try installing it again.

I would recommend doing the regular formatting, but before that, you should make sure that your primary HDD is recognized as the primary HDD (hard drive).

My recommended BIOS boot configuration:

1. CD or DVD Device
2. Hard Drive
3. Removable Storage Device (ZIP, Floppy Drive, USB Drive)
4. (if applicable) Secondary Cd or DVD or Hard Drive

I would probably run a Diag on the HD to apply some stress tests into it, you can use programs like PC-Check from Eurosoft.

256mb is Xp's minimum to have a steady system your going to need atleast 512.
