I currently have a GeForce 8600 GT but the newer the game I buy, the lower the max graphics levels are. Which video card (preferred nvidia) would be right? Obviously not a replacement for my gaming rig but the one I'm on right now.

I have the same video card right now and I'll upgrade as well (when I get $$ of course)

What is your budget?

Are those your specs in your sig? Says you have a gtx 280

I'm planning on saving up to $120

I could save up to 150USD but I think I might stay at 120 for now

i got the dual slot edition of the 8800GT for $150 during summer, and it doesnt seem like it keeps it as cool, my friend got the XFX one, and the heatsink was smaller, yet we got the same temps.

the 9800GT and 8800GT will perform the same, i think they got the same cores. the only difference is that the 9800GT is DX10.1 and has OpenGL 2.1 IIRC.

G92 does not support DX10.1. The 9800GT is identical in every way to the 8800GT except for supporting Hybrid Power (to save power, and that's only with the 750A/780A AM2+ chipsets)

As for what card, it all depends on what resolution you play at:

1280x1024/1440x900 - 8800GT 512MB
1680x1050/1600x1200 - HD 4850 512MB
1920x1200 - HD 4870 1GB
2560x1600 - GTX 280 1GB or HD 4870 X2
