I personally don't think the GTX280 is worth the price. The HD4850 is probably the best price-performance card around.

I have the 9800GT It cost me $179 Australian Dollars. My friend has the 280 and he payed almost double possibly a bit more and there wasn't much difference. I tested call of duty 4 on maximum graphics for both cards and there was no difference. So in my opinion go for the 9800 and wait till a new card comes out in about 6-7 months and possibly get that one

Get the AMD HD 4850, but if you are Nvidia fan then get the 9800GTX+. The 9800GT is just 8800GT with a different name so I wouldnt go for that. But if you've got the money then get the 9800GX2

Depends what resolution you play at. The GTX 2x0 series is only justifiable if you game at 1920x1200 or higher. But there the GTX 260/GTX 280 are outperformed by ATi's similarly priced offerings. The 8800GT/9800GT is a great buy if you can find it for under $120 though.
