A question about blocking adult sites on a multi-user computer

Hmmm.... not sure if I'm posting this in the right section. If its in the wrong section, can a moderator move this thread to the appropriate section?

Anyways, here's a little job that I gotta figure out to do.

Discription:

Neighbors Gateway E Series computer running Windows XP Home.

What they want to do:

Setup the computer so that each individual family member has their own user account on one computer with passwords to gain access to their own account. That I know how to do. (3) people will be using this computer and they want to block access to adult oriented material under their sons account. Whats the best software for this task?

They also want to limit their sons access to the computer as well. The "go outside and find something better to do than sitting on your ass infront of the computer all day," approach. I noticed that at my local library, their computer room grants each user 30 mins of play on the computer. 1 minute before shutdown, a warning message pops up saying "You have one minute to save your work." Then the computer automatically logs off that user and that user has to wait 30 mins or an hour to log back on. Other users can log on however. How would I go about doing this?

im sorry but i just disagree with what youre trying to do, instead of limiting your son from going on the computer and blocking him from going to the sites, how bout telling him and really trying to teach him some things about why he shouldnt do it, because there is ALWAYS a workaround with software, and im not just talking proxies, if you did more research you would find out that the software will only delay him from going where he wants, however thats just me, but ill help ypu anyways couse im nice...

nikjay25, honestly it isn't his choice really, his neighbors want him to do a job and he's asking how to do it, I think you might have misread and thought it was his son he wants to limit.

As per your situation jason, I would have a parental filter installed to block them, as for logging people off after a designated time I would just have someone make a simple VB app that runs on that users startup, something that starts a timer and when it reaches x minutes it warns them they only have x minutes left, then creates a text file with the time and date, then on startup if the current time and date is within x minutes of the previous text file it logs them off.

Although that probably doesn't help you much, since you're looking for a program itself that does such a thing, I thought I'd throw it out there if anyone else is an avid aspiring programmer :).

Search the web for what they call "kiosk software" Its the stuff they put on the internet cafe's and coffeeshops. There are some trial versions, they will work for what you want.

Also if you just want to filter web content a nice free way can be found at www.opendns.com You just sign up for a free account and change your DNS servers to theirs and you can pick what you want to block etc. It gets a little more complicated if you have a dynamic IP but it will still work.
