any way to get around paying for it or going over it?
have an iphone if that helps

You have two simple solutions. One, don't text. Two, buy a text messaging plan.

It's like $10 a month, why not pay for it? I like it, depending on the person, I prefer to just send a quick message then call. If it's because you get a lot of messages from people, you can just pay for the $5 plan to cover those messages, unless you get like 20 messages a day.

He means, that he has a contract and that he doesnt want to go over his allowed texts. I work out how many I am allowed a day (33~ for me)... If I use 10 on one day, then the next day, I can think to my self.. Right, I can use 56 today.. ETC. I have more then I ever use, so i dont really need to worry..

Of course you have to pay for texting...
As hascet said, get a texting plan or don't text.
It's like asking how to avoid the phone bill...

o2 will give you 10 free texts a month but you have to send them from their website.

Visit o2.co.uk and register.

If you have a data plan, get the email address for all of your friends phones (usually full phone number @ the carrier) and just email them, it will go right to their phone.

its all good for us to give UK/USA advice, but where is he from? i forgot lol.
sadly theres no free way, unless you get free internet on your phone, then you can use a free sms site.
