Laptop has stopped playing dvds

Hi ya, could someone please give me some advice. My laptop has suddenly stopped playing dvds. I haven't installed anything only service pack 3 for windows xp. Any help would be most gratefull before i take it in to get fixed.

go to device manager and check the drivers

The drivers fixed it then?

only things i could think of is: check the laser on your cd drive to see if it hasen't moved up, or, see if your driver needs an update etc.

did you by anychance drop or place your laptop on the desk hard...? cause that could be a result in damaging the dvd player. Perhaps something came loose, best way to know is either open it up and have a look,... or take it into a tech shop and i'm sure they'll be able to spot the problem very quickly. But first do a driver update like mentioned above...

but only do that if you have a good idea of what you're doing, otherwise i would take it into a tech support place.

When you say it won't play DVD's what do you mean? The DVD doesn't show up or you cannot open the files located on the DVD? If so, are there any errors you get?
