I have a NEC laptop that currently has 512Mb. It has one spare slot for additional Ram and has a max capacity for 3gb. Does that mean that i am able to install either an additional 1gb or 2gb memory stick and work fine??

Thanks

Yes you may, but mucking around with the hardware and the insides of a laptop can be slightly more complicated and also you'll have to find hardware that is usable on a laptop.
I recommend doing this if your are experienced and/or don't care if the laptop breaks.

Good luck ;)

Simple answer is yes. Just make sure the memory you get is for your machine.
Installing it is a snap. Just follow the instructions in your user manual.

Newegg has a memory configurator. I used that, and I also checked the manufacters website. When installing the ram, put it in a 45 degree angle. Thats how mine and others Ive worked on are.
