Im doing a defrag, and i have heard 2-3 clunking noises coming from my hardrive,I know this is a sign of dyeing hardrive but how long do you think i have before it goes up to the big RAID Array in the sky :( ?

I don't know, but I'd start backing up. I backed up my HDD just before the computer got struck with lightning. What luck!

Yeah i do regular backups so thats all taken care of!

I just want to get the MOST out of this hardrive, but knowing my luck i'll spend some money, and have none left, and then the hardrive will dye.

It would be prudent to look in to a Samsung OEM hard drive. It doesn't have a fancy box just comes in a sealed bag. Good product for a resonable price.

Hard drives can last a year, ten years, or even more. I have a couple of old Maxtor 40 GB IDE drives that are around seven years old that still work. My Western Digital Raptor X died after about a year, hopefully my replacement will last longer.

I dont always buy into that drive is dying if clunking business. My 2nd drive has been clunking away for years now.
