I don't want to run true dual boot. If I have 3 partitions. 2 For vista and 1 for ubuntu, will that work, so that I can just choose to boot to ubuntu when I feel like it?

no, I have three ntfs partitions. One has vista Os, one has all my stuff and I am going to delete one and use the unallocated space for ubuntu. Do i need to combine the first 2 partitions or not?

Oh I see. I'm pretty sure you don't have to combine the partitions. Just have one reformatted and ready for Ubuntu to be installed on.

ok cool. I was going to completely reformat. But when my vista disc loads, i get to the graphic screen, but i cant see anything... hmmm

Another option. You can install Ubuntu inside of windows. It wont need partition. But you can choose how much space you want it to use. And, you can simply uninstall it just like a regular windows program.
Thats how I did it.
