I would still do a defrag. Uninstalling also leaves fragments of programs behind.

Defragmenting your hard drive should be done every few months if not every month. I'm doing one now.

Dude you probably have a lot more processes going now that its a year later. Taking up all the ram space. Try ending as many processes as you can before you start the game but now that i read you have 4 gigs of ram with that badass video card. Er I want that

My computer has a scheduled defrag every week. So that should not be the problem. I feel as if it something big is causing this problem.

You say you don't think it's drivers, but have you tried actually updating them?

Get video, sound and chipset drivers in, even if it ends up being the same as what you currently have. Also have you bothered with the DX updates yet?
