Is my video card fried?

I was playing a game and all of a sudden my monitor turned off and wouldn't work. I plugged my monitor into my motherboard so that's fine now, but if I have the video card plugged in the computer won't start correctly. Everything is on, but the monitor stays in that "stand by" mode.

So basically, if the video card is inserted the computer won't work, but if I take it out the computer is just fine. I've played this game quite a bit so it's not something new to it and I've had no previous problems with the video card.

The video card is a GeForce FX5500 and the motherboard is a Asus A7X8X-LA.

Thanks for any help, by the way.

Make sure the card is fit into the slot securely

More like than not it's gone...

Let it cool down, try it again after a while, could have overheated?

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm honestly not really sure of the age of the card, but the game was World of Warcraft, so nothing too straining.

I've taken it out and nothing looks wrong.

@toole:

It may have overheated, yes, I wouldn't know if it did or did not, honestly. Though when I was messing with it earlier it didn't seem to feel overheated.

look at the mother board is the slot tweaked or anything stuck in it
