so i am thinking of getting a new mobo so i can SLi my 8800GT, i will get the 8800GT soon if it works out.
But i was seeing what motherboard was good and supports SLi, and also supports AM2+ for phenom later when i get money.
i was looking at this motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130161
and i was looking at the jumper slot, and it has 6 holes, the ones i see usually has 4, and my PSU also has 4. So i was wondering why this has 6, and wonder if i need to get a another PSU.

Not sure if this links works for you guys or not, but which motherboard would you guys prefer?

but only select the one thats either the MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard, or cheaper.

Thanks in advance

i'd personnaly go with the MSI because it look's like it'll run alot cooler. the only what that compete's with it is the gigabyte one for the same price but i like the MSI one alot better and have heard much better from it

by "jumper slot" do you mean the 8 pin 12v power connection for the cpu...? it takes the customary 4 pin (leave the cover on) or an 8 pin (take the cover off) connector that some of the newer psus have...

I would choose either the MSI or the Gigabyte, both boards have a PCI-Ex16 and a PCI-Ex8, but in SLI the x16 will run at x8 (not really "true" SLI) on both boards...

I've never had an MSI motherboard, but the Gigabyte has a dual bios (a nice little feature that should make flashing your bios pretty much worry free) and an xpress recovery feature (I haven't used mine yet, but am starting to read up on it, I believe it creates an image file of your boot drive which remains hidden somewhere until you need to use it, but like I said, I'm still reading up on it), not only that, the overclocking menus on Gigabyte boards are tremendous...

so i can just use my regular 4 pin 12v?
should i even go with the nForce 7xx series?
or can you guys suggest an good SLi board? budget is $150

so looking at the mobos, i decided to go with Gigabyte because the layout is better than MSI, but not sure if the cooling is as efficient.

few questions

1. i was wondering that if i get this board, and another 8800GT, will i be able to run Sli with my current hardware?

2. I got this 8800GT
EVGA 512-P3-N800-TR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
and i was thinking of getting this 8800GT
PNY VCG88512GXEB-FLB GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
and i was wondering if i can Sli them together

3. i was reading a review on the MSI mobo, and they said that to run SLI they have to have a 8pin rail. is that true?
Link to my PSU (500W OCZ StealthXStream)

thanks in advance

Gigabyte makes a great motherboard.

1. Yes, you'll be able to run SLI with your current hardware. The 8800GT require at least 450W and 24A @12V for SLI

2. Those will run perfectly together.

3. I don't think so. The MSI board has an extra molex connector near the 1st PCIe slot to provide extra power when running in SLI.

sweet, thanks.

But should i go with the PNY for my second 8800GT? or should i go with another eVGA/other brand?
would i get the same performance?

for future reference, how do i tell if i have 24A @12V from this chart?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/drivers/500wchart.JPG

you have two +12v rails, each with 18 amps (36 amps total), I would suggest getting another psu if you intend on running SLI, you may be able to squeak by with that one, but I wouldn't risk it...

you serious?
dang, and i just got this PSU 3 days ago....
does that mean i need a psu with at least a total of 48 amps?
