always says if i want to safely remove it at the bottom right...

It's drivers. Some Nforce and Via chipset drivers do that. Upon windows install if you put in the SATA (not to be confused with the raid drivers this is always optional) drivers it can do that.

SATA drives are hot swappable so they can be replaced while the system is running. That little icon lets you safely shut down the drive before removal. It's not absolutely necessary to do so, but it's always a good idea.

There is a way to remove that icon on the taskbar, but I don't remember what it is.
