Need help finding a goo program

I am trying to find a good program to join avi files together and so far all the one i found aren't very good. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

I'm asking because when i try windows movie maker, I put all the files in there and when i try to combine them it wont let me because that option in the drop down menu is greyed out. Any one know why?
