How do I know if I have DDR2 or DDR3 RAM ?

not necessarily, some DDR3 is becoming just as cheap as DDR2...

example...2GBs OCZ PC3 10666 for less than $80

Sheeeeesh, and to think my Kingston HyperX PC3 11000 (virtually the same as that linked above) was worth ~$A600 just a year ago.

quick question, is it really worth it to get DDR3 now compared to getting DDR2?
and when do you guys think that the DDR3 will become more of the mainstream RAM, and the DDR2 will become the next DDR?

u can do wat caveman said or if u no wat ur motherboard is u can look for the online guide or if u still have the manual that came with ur motherboard it should say.

Many of the new high end motherboards support DDR3, so I'd say it's already going "mainstream". There are many good quality 2x1GB kits in the $70 - $80 range.
