I ordered a Sony VAIO FW series laptop yesterday, quite excited about it.

Originally I bought a IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T61. I was happy with that as well, until I found that it was a lemon. Second day I owned it, the laptop started locking up on me. From there, I was really disatisfied.

I contacted Lenovo and the had me send it to the depot for diagnostics. Then they shipped it back. The receipt said that they replaced the hardrive, the memory, and reloaded the HD with a new image.

I took it out of the box, turned it on, and first thing it siad, before I even got to the windows Vista splash screen was "Unexpected shutdown detecting...initializing" That pissed me off that from the depot I got it without a proper shutdown! I wonder if the depot people sucked ass through a straw or something...

Anyway, I went ahead and started configuring it to my liking, and the same day it started locking up again. Quite annoyed, I contacted Lenovo again, telling them I have owned this for only a few weeks and wanted this to be taken care of promptly. They obliged and sent out a tech. to my house to replace the system board, suspect that is the culprit. The guy came out, found out he was a contractor and not even a Lenovo specialist. He went ahead and did the work, and I found out after he left that the laptop wasn't even put together correctly. Some of the pieces were not properly installed and so the shell was loose and would pop in and out of place in some areas. Then I also noticed some eletrical buzzing from the processor fan area and one of the speakers crackled after he did his work.

So, I contacted Lenovo, AGAIN. I told them that I was fed up with this, and wanted to send it for a complete replacement, or a refund. They went ahead and set up an RMA to be sent back for a full refund.

With that said, they told me they would be crediting my credit card. I decided that I may want to change a few things on the laptop since I knew I might want some more hardrive space. Well, after talking to my friend and looking around at other laptops, I found an awesome new VAIO!

What do you guys think? Of both the laptop and the situation I had to go through.

O my god I bet you was ANGRY and so would I, I would go ape sh*t at them if that happened, I'd loose my temper bad.

But that Sony is very nice, I bet one thing you would not look at 1st but the sound, I would say on that sony laptop that they will have really good sound, I can tell because I've had sony programs and equipment and they are wicked at that.

Ive gone out before and bought a 10pound pair of earphones, they was rubbish, then I looked at sony, 15pound it was , they was almighty beasts

Yea Sony built themselves on their sound quality. :) The IBM also had surprisingly good sound. It was fairly loud, which can be hard to come across on lappies. I suspect this laptop will be very good on sound like you said, especially since it is a multimedia laptop, and boasts a mobile home theater like experience. :D

I managed to keep my temper well. IBM was good on their customer service, it's just that I happen to get the lemon lappy. :(

Thanks!! :D I am very excited to get it. Sony predicts it will ship on the 6th of Aug. and arrive 5 business days later.

Wow, I'm surprised lenovo sent someone to replace the board. I would have thought they would just send out a guy with a replacement laptop and pick the other one up. Kind of odd, but congrats on the new laptop.

Yea he said the exact same thing. He found it quite suprising that Lenovo did not replace it after the issues I had.

Oh well, that is what they get for not replacing it early on. :p

I know if i was that person i would of been so angry i would of given up the second time.Very bad service.

congrats on the new laptop. Sucks about the IBM, and someone told me that IBM's were made pretty solid. Atleast i know where i work, they use a lot of T40's.

Yea IBM is known for solid laptops. I was surprised that I was dealing with a bumbed one. Like I said, I think I unfortunately got a lemon, which is disappointing. I understand how that type of business works, and the someone has to get a bad one at some point. This time, it was me. I don't think IBM is a bad company now or anything, but I hope that they do a better job with the next person that gets a lemon.

I am glad I found the Sony though, because it is a lot nicer. $446 difference, but well worth it. :D
