problem with my avi and DVDRIP files

hello everyone i just restore my computer to its original with the syste recovery and i am trying to play some movies and shows i have on avi and dvd rip files and i only get the sound and some like 3d graphs???? anyone knows what could i do?

what you need is some codec to play your files.

i believe there are 2 fantastic paths you can go down,

you can download VLC media player from here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
which will play every film you ever want it to and has fantastic features such as changing aspect ratio resyncing the audio, but as a player its not as pretty as WMP,

so if you wish to stick with your original video player then you will need to download a codec pack of which i belive k-lite codec pack to be the best, this is downloadable from here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm

since when? I downloaded divx and vlc and every single video that I download plays, never had a problem.

I've done this for 6years now (not vlc for 6years tho)

VLC contains the codecs, why would you download DivX?

If you get DivX off divx.com, it could contain spyware. Supposedly they stopped putting it in a while back, but why not download a codec pack instead just in case? It's guaranteed spyware free, and has a ton more codecs for the future.

Where did you hear that? DivX defiantly does not have spyware or adware packaged with it.
