Can't install Itunes... get weird message.

I'm having problems installing some programs like itunes.
When i click to install it , I get this message:

The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are
running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I am not running in safe mode and i had no problems installing programs before.
Can someone please help me?

I am running windows xp service pack 3.

Well, I got a problem with the InstallShield wizard once. It wouldn't run. I ended up reformatting.

There's no reason to reformat your computer. I'm not even sure why that was suggested.

Did you change your system in anyway before this problem starting occurring?

no i just installed some programs like revo uninstaller and auslogic disk defragmenter. didn't download anything from bittorrent or limewire.
and i just installed those two programs last week.
