connecting pc to tv with RGB cable

hello guys
completly new to all this and had a question hope you all can help

i have a presario lap top R3000 and i have decided to connect it to my to tv using an RGB cable. my laptop has a female output and so does my tv. i have everything connected but i only get video when i start the computer, in other words i only see the compac and xp previous screens when the pc is booting after that my tv says it gets no signal.
is there anything i need to do different? I have an Nvidia card?

any sugestions

it may be in the video settings, right click your desktop and go through the settings. i would go further but im on vista and have lost some XP experience :/

Right click on your desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Click on the monitor labeled "2" -> Tick "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" -> Click Apply
